HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I got to usher in the new year in my favorite way– celebrating my Papa Bear’s birthday! He’s a January 1 baby, and celebrating him has always been the fresh start I seem to need once Christmas is over. He’s my favorite human for so many reasons, but one of the top few is because he is such a giving man to all he meets. Because of that, there’s nothing we wouldn’t do for him too. He makes my heart feel good and I’m a better person just for knowing him, not to mention I was lucky enough to be raised by him as well.

For my first outfit of 2016, I stuck with my usual uniform of somewhat impractical and wonderfully eclectic. My grandma is concerned about my domestic goddess abilities (or lack thereof) and also about my being able to afford whole pants. I’ll keep her on the edge of her seat regarding those top priority issues for now.

My charcoal fuzzy vest is from Dottie, and the warmth provided by it far exceeds the lack of attractiveness it leaves me. In Indiana, you’ve got to keep your priorities straight before frostbite takes over. I paired an olive v neck underneath a heather grey cardigan from Aeropostale under the vest for a comfortable but surprisingly warm base layer. I never really have a plan when going into an outfit, but I was pleasantly surprised at how the olive and greys complemented each other and I think I’ll be wearing them together again!

My distressed skinnies are also from Dottie, and I can’t seem to get enough of this type of jean despite the fact that I always look like a busted can of biscuits in them until they stretch out enough for proper circulation. It’s fine.
These TOMS booties are my new favs! They were a Christmas gift from my dad, and I’ve decided they match absolutely everything I feel like wearing! I’ll probably look back on this and laugh in about a month, but c’est la vie.
I think one of the reasons I insist on wearing them with everything is because they’re so comfortable! I love the clickity clack of heels but not the painstaking days the sound results in, and these provide all the noise and none of the pain. Nailed it.
I am so excited for what 2016 has in store! I don’t necessarily believe in New Year’s resolutions per se, but I am a big fan of resolving to make some necessary changes in life regardless of the time of year. I am always wanting to blog more, and I have every intention of starting today becauseeeee why not. Also I resolve to do this about once a month anyway so why not start with the first month?
I have also become a full-blown coffee snob, thanks to my father in law’s new cappuccino machine and mad barista skills. But look at what he can make, and I don’t even have to deal with a moody Starbs barista that may or may not have spit in my overpriced coffee beans mixed with sugar. I would like to start every day off with one of these beauts and a blog-worthy outfit, but I’m not an unreasonable fool so I’ll just take what I can get in both regards, and make the most of 2016.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Let me know!
Love,
Ashley
